Kim Wheels moved to Colorado in 2005 to take renewable energy and green building design courses with Solar Energy International in Carbondale, CO.  Since then, she has lived in the Telluride region, after moving here to gain renewable energy experience working with Veritas Solar in Norwood designing and installing solar PV and hot water systems.

In addition to her efforts with Lotus Energy Solutions, she is an energy consultant for The New Community Coalition, the regional non-profit organization for sustainability.  Her projects include: working with local governments on development of new regional green building codes, encouraging development of renewable energy projects, implementation of energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction programs for the community, and management of programs for the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office.

Kim holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and acquired her professional engineering license in 2002. Prior to her transition into energy efficiency, she gained experience as a mechanical engineer with engineering consulting firms - designing power plant systems, providing energy design services for central energy plants, and designing HVAC systems. She also worked with Resource Engineering Group in Crested Butte, designing sustainable mechanical systems for residences.

Kim passed the RESNET National Rater Exam in May of 2008, and became a fully certified HERS rater in March of 2009.
